Ever feel like being at the center of things for once? Then head to one of our almost 100 Rundling villages! All of the residences encircle a central village square. There is just one entrance driveway. Typical for the Wendland region. And the most exciting things are the various explanations regarding why these villages are round -- but we haven’t come to agreement on that yet. Did they originate with the Slavic settlers? Did the shape have an economic function? No matter. Visiting the villages is worthwhile in any case. You’ll find peace and quiet here. And creativity. And much more. Great Rundling Village Trail

On this 17 km hike you can explore the unique, circular Rundling villages -- where the Wend people once lived. Wendland is well-known for its many Rundling villages in which the houses are constructed in a circular arrangement. Each village has its own delightful charm. The origins of the shape of these villages are still a mystery today. But we do know that the Wends -- a Slavic people -- lived in the Rundling villages starting in the 12th century. Satemin

Satemin is the largest Rundling village in the Wendland region. There are 12 residences here. Here you will also find a pottery shop and studio, the Wendland Café, the Markthof Satemin Hotel, and a restaurant. Clearly, it’s worth a visit. Satemin is located just 4 km from Lüchow. Lübeln

Lübeln has 12 residences, all of them arranged around the village square. Here you will find pleasant cafés, the First Deutsche Kartoffel-Hotel and the Wendlandhof Rundling Museum. In the Rundling museum you will learn more about the unique construction of the Rundling villages. And more about the farmers’ lives in these circular villages.

Schreyahn

Exactly in the middle between Lüchow and Clenze is Schreyahn. Its artists’ residence makes it well-known among artisans and craftspeople. But you’ll also enjoy it. Gühlitz

Bussau

Bussau is one of the most well maintained Rundling villages in Wendland. Seven typical Low Saxon farmhouses are still located at the center of the charming little village. Nienwedel

Thunpadel

Fully intact! Thunpadel is a well-preserved, intact Rundling village in Wendland. The village’s appearance is characterized by the house type: Low Saxon farmhouse with a half-hipped roof! Bausen

These villages have not only a unique architecture, but also unique names... Bausen, a typical Rundling village, is located in a transitional area between sandy Ice Age deposits and marshland. You’ll also find something rather rare here: a half-timbered, three-post farmhouse from the 18th century. Bausen is located 5 km from Clenze. Breese im Bruche

You’ll find lots of old architectural sites here. In the square in front of the castle, you can imagine a fortress from the 15th or 16th century. Now a former manor house is located there. Next to the well-preserved half-timbered farmhouses you will also find the Breese manor chapel built in the Renaissance style. Diahren

A large fire in 1808 destroyed most of the village. But it was reconstructed. Today, beautiful four-post farmhouses under the elderly trees adorn the Rundling village of Diahren. You find general information about the rundling villages at the 'Rundlingsverein'.

Güstritz

Jabel

Jameln

Loge

Small, but remarkable! In one of the smallest Rundling villages in the Wendland region, the houses have been tilted by the wind, but their original structure is still well preserved. Meuchefitz

Mammoissel

Mammoissel is the “perfect” Rundling village. All of the residential properties are arranged in a perfect circle. In the center is the village square with a tree and the table where milk cans were set after milking. Simply delightful!
