Organsummer Gartow
In July and August, different artists perform various works each year at the Gartow Organ Summer Festival. The concerts last approximately 45 minutes and take place every Wednesday. They begin at 6 p.m., and admission is free. A special highlight is the Hagelstein organ in St. George’s Church in Gartow. It is one of the most outstanding and historically protected instruments in the diverse organ landscape of the Wendland region. It was built between 1735 and 1740 by the young organ builder Johann Matthias Hagelstein from Lüneburg, who was a student of Matthias Dropa, a collaborator of Schnitger. The Gartow organ is the only instrument completed by Hagelstein.
