Gigantic erratic boulders from the most recent Ice Age, megalithic stone tombs from the Neolithic period, sites related to the period of French rule, and hunting stories involving Kaisers — during the tour between Göhrde and Neetze you’ll be looking back into the past. The Göhrde national forest is the largest contiguous mixed forest area in northern Germany. Very old English oaks are designated natural monuments and are therefore protected. In Dahlenburg, the largest orchid garden in northern Germany is worth a visit, and a trip with the Alt Garge draisine, a bicycle-driven handcar, through the Elbe river valley is an unforgettable experience.
