The Elbe Heights Tour runs along both sides of the Elbe river where the current is strong. On the right side of the river between Darchau and Herrenhof, 100-year-old fruit trees line the boulevards of the mostly flat trail through the Neuhauser Elbe marsh landscape. In the spring, a fantastic variety of blooming flowers fills this cultural landscape. On the left side of the river, the thickly forested Elbe Heights of the Drawehn Ridge and the Hitzacker vineyards provide a wonderful view of the Elbe riverscape after you’ve met the challenge posed by the change in elevation. The willow beds near Tiesmesland are only a hint of the once mighty riverside forests on the banks of the Elbe river.
