UNESCO Biosphere Reserve

Conservation is a big deal in the Wendland region! For this reason, we protect the captivating meadows along the Elbe river, the mystic marshlands, and the abundant forests in the “Elbe River Valley” Biosphere Reserve of Lower Saxony. Not only white-tailed eagles, white storks, wild geese, and beaver feel at home here -- you will, too, because our motto is to live in and with Nature! And UNESCO agrees: the Elbe river valley in Lower Saxony is part of the UNESCO “Elbe River Landscape” Biosphere Reserve, which extends through several German states.
