For me, Wendland is a "land of longing"; in 2011 it lured me with its beautiful half-timbered houses, the wide sky, the impressive rundling villages, the cultural offers, the wonderful landscape and last but not least with the people living here. It forms a successful contrast to the big city; instead of density, fast-living, noise and crowds one finds here vastness, silence, star constellations, bird chirping - an ideal environment to pause for a moment.
Sometimes I just stop and think, “Man, is it beautiful here!” I’ve been in Wendland since 2014. In my workshop I develop products that are then sent back into the city. It’s super that more and more young people are finding their way here, people I find incredibly interesting to work and spend time with.
“In Wendland, you’re closer to the truth” - the title of my 2007 book was misunderstood. No, we’re not smarter, better, or more advanced here - instead, we’re actually closer: Closer to Nature and the threats Nature faces, to the creative imagination and its magic, to everyday serenity and dedication to cultural change ... take a chance on transformation - right here and now!
I am so happy to live here. This combination of a peaceful, idyllic life in the country with creative, open-hearted people is irresistible to me. Wonderfully diverse people who love to discuss and organize things, who don’t need much money to realize their dreams - if that’s what you want to experience - visit us. Consider this an invitation!
I came to Wendland in 1978 and just stayed here. I like the creativity, tolerance, and independent spirit of the people here. Sometimes they irritate me, but then again I could just hug them for their pig-headedness. I enjoy the privilege of doing my thing in peace and serenity. If you can stand to slow down and relax, then Wendland is the right place for you.
“But isn’t it lonely here?” Wendland has the greatest concentration of conference facilities in all of Germany. Each facility has its own emphasis and offers space for a variety of ideas and innovative offerings. Many people love to travel to the Wendland region to dedicate themselves to a craft intensively and without distraction: weaving, pottery, carpentry, goldsmithery.
I came to Gartow for the first time in 1989 and immediately fell in love with this natural paradise. The Elbe river valley with the mighty oaks carrying the weight of history drew me in right away. In 1991 I moved to Wendland and I give thanks every day for this part of the world and for the wonderful people around me, whose relaxed way of living reminds me of my home in France. Now, for more than 25 years I have been happy to show our guests how I love the Wendland region.
I have been a Wendland resident with a passion for 25 years and I want to bring Nature back into gardens.
During my studies in Lüneburg I already discovered the beautiful Wendland with its diverse people, its special history and its free spirit. To return here now - over twenty years later and hopefully for good this time - is to a creative person like myself as if I was coming home . In return, I hope to enrich the region permanently: with the revival of the village pub in Jabel and with a variety of cultural events.
